UMBRAGROUP Signs a Strategic Agreement with Leonardo to Strengthen Italy’s Helicopter Supply Chain

Innovation, Quality, and Competitiveness in Italy’s Helicopter Supply Chain

Perugia, December 16, 2025 – At the headquarters of the Umbria Region, a signing ceremony was held for three industrial collaboration agreements between Leonardo and three leading companies from Umbria: UMBRAGROUP, Fucine Umbre, and Meccanotecnica Umbra.

The agreements are part of the “Growing Together” program, promoted by Leonardo’s Helicopter Division, aimed at strengthening national production capacity in the aerospace sector, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers, and enhancing Italian expertise.“Umbria is the first region where three companies have jointly signed collaboration agreements with Leonardo under the Growing Together program,” said Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director of Leonardo’s Helicopter Division.

With this project, Leonardo consolidates its national supply chain by leveraging the technological expertise of local companies, which become partners in the design and production of key components for our civil helicopters. It’s a win-win model that expands Leonardo’s research and innovation capabilities, strengthens the competitiveness of our products, and enables companies to grow their know-how and technological portfolio in strategic areas for the country.”

The agreements cover the production, development, and certification of strategic components—classified as critical supplies, previously sourced mainly abroad—intended for Leonardo’s civil helicopters.
Specifically, the agreement with UMBRAGROUP includes the supply of bearings for helicopter transmissions. To support this new line, the company has already invested in cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and is preparing to expand its aeronautical certifications, ensuring even higher standards of quality and safety.Matteo Notarangelo, CEO of UMBRAGROUP, commented:

“This agreement represents a strategic milestone not only for UMBRAGROUP but for the entire Italian industrial supply chain. Collaboration with Leonardo allows us to fully leverage our technological expertise in a highly innovative field, making a tangible contribution to the country’s growth. It’s an opportunity that confirms our commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability and perfectly reflects our mission: to reshape the future of aviation through cutting-edge solutions developed in close partnership with our collaborators.”
