Product news for Präzisionskugeln Eltmann

Balls with an extremely hard surface

Präzisionskugeln Eltmann has for the first time produced steel balls with a surface hardness of around 70 HRC (around 1000 HV) and a diameter of 12.7 mm.
These balls are produced in M50 heat-resistant steel and the high surface hardness is obtained through a special nitriding process.
To meet the high quality requirements, the processing was performed within the aerospace division of UMBRAGROUP’s German facility.
The balls were ordered for rollover tests on special wear resistant materials. The duration of the nitrided balls in the overturning tests is at least one week, while for the non-nitrided balls it is a maximum of one day.
It is possible to take advantage of the technology used for the production of very hard balls for other applications as well.
