The Electro-Mechanical Actuator (EMA) represents a major movement away from mechanically powered motors and gear trains to magnets permanently bonded onto a ball nut, so that the magnetized ball nut itself is now the rotor of a motor. This yielded a more versatile, compact, and advanced linear motion design that substantially increased energy efficiency so that our EMAs can operate in a much greater range of applications and conditions.
By vertically integrating the kinematic chain of components into one system and eliminating coupling components and drive transmission devices, our Electro-Mechanical Actuators substantially reduces friction between components. Consequently, UMBRA EMA’s generate the most force, weigh less, and consume 30% less energy than any other actuators in the same class.
