Generator (5;10; 20 KW)
The Umbra Reciprocating Linear Alternator (RLA) benefits from the principle of electromagnetic induction to produce electricity. Linear motion is converted into rotary motion through a helical interface between the rotor of the permanent magnet generator and the shaft which is similar to a ball screw. The RLA utilizes specialized materials to ensure durability and minimizes the losses by closely integrating highly-efficient, power-conversion componentry to achieve direct power conversion with an efficiency as high as 85% from a single electromechanical device. It should be noted that unlike traditional generators, the efficiency is constant over a wider range of input speeds and is a function of input power – the lower the input power, the lower the efficiency.
