The absence of rubbing between balls, reduced friction using hybrid ball screws and the diversity between contact materials translate into increased system efficiency, less wear, reduced working temperatures, increased positioning precision, virtually unchanged preload maintenance and longer screw system life. Umbra screws have successfully achieved axial speeds of 200 m/min and accelerations up to 10 g.
The hybrid configuration alternate ceramic balls with smaller diameter steel balls – alters the kinematics due to the “cage” effect typical of bearings, generated by the presence of “idle” balls. In almost 20 years of applications – both in the industrial and aeronautic fields – the hybrid solution has demonstrated the utmost reliability in resolving problems of axes that cannot cope with standard steel ball technology.
