» GERMOGLIO MERAVIGLIOSO
The group home Germoglio Meraviglioso lies on a hill near Foligno. It was started by volunteers who, in 1997, saw the precariousness of life during the earthquake in Umbria. The volunteers revitalized the Camp run by the Caritas in Nocera Umbria. Since 2012 the NGO, La Gòmena Onlus, took over this project. Thanks to a contribution from Umbra an important objective was reached: the leaky roof, which was about to collapse, was rebuilt. Today this structure hosts about 40 people. On Sunday, the 7th of July, 2013 there was a celebration for the new structure. The task of a company isn’t just to make profits but also to share wealth, first and foremost with partners and then the community. These were words from Ing. Baldaccini during the inauguration where he made an appeal to the generosity and respect as concrete actions for the next-in-line. On this Sunday, immersed in the green hills above Foligno, another gesture of solidarity blossomed and brought smiles and warmth where there was poverty and sadness had taken hold. “Satisfy the needs of children”: a priority about respect that underscores the right of each child to abundant and free access to information. This project was presented to the NGO Aurora, with a proposal to the City of Foligno and sponsored by the American company, Boeing, with a contribution from UmbraGroup and Aurora. It was inaugurated on the 8th of July, 2011. “The Wings of Imagination,” the name of the project, synthesizes perfectly this fusion between cultures, territory and the aeronautical world, and also between Boeing and the local Umbrian community. It demonstrates that a responsible company is not only synonymous with production and offering employment. The press release from the City of Foligno summarized the project objectives: “Facilitate the rights of all children to information, literacy, socio-cultural encouragement; liberal access to resources and means of communication; provide liberty and security; encourage the children to develop personal confidence and competence, and to champion a world without war.” The two international enterprises, Boeing and UmbraGroup are not only partners in business but follow the same guidelines based on a shared ethic that puts the person at the center of each activity. They are the same values: the importance in playing a role in society and the will to bring concrete help to those with whom they are in contact. (City of Foligno, November 2010) In the inauguration speech, Valter Baldaccini, the CEO said: “A profound emotion accompanies me as I enter this new children’s library and it’s with great satisfaction I’m able to say that it presents one of the small cases in which the imagination exceeds reality. To see the realization of this children’s library is an incentive for all of UmbraGroup. In this way our company remains a point of reference for the cultural activities of the region. My hope is that this new structure teaches and encourages many young people to engage with culture. It is this engagement together with economics that determines the strength of the population in a society which is becoming more globalized. The scholastic year 2011-2012 began with an educational project promoted by Boeing and Umbra Cuscinetti S.p.A. that had been curated by Ellesse Edu with the participation of Jeppesen Italia (owned by Boeing Company) to educate young people about safeguarding the environment and preserving our planet. The objective is to expose the next generation to fundamental themes which relate to the environment and innovative technology. The initial lesson is expanding the concept of the need for an equilibrium between economic development and the quality of life. This incentivizes responsible behavior from the students as they will become the citizens of the future. The school is, in fact, an open place of diversity and plurality. It’s a place for developing a conscious and a training ground for growing personally and socially. The first edition of the project revolves around the region of Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. The second edition of the project, from 2012-2013, extended to all of the national territories, concentrating on a target of about 16.000 schools and 133.000 classes. “Mad About the Environment” was found worthy of a contribution by the Ministry of the Environment. For both editions it received the patronage of the region of Umbria and the Board of Education. In collaboration with: The Boeing Company Ellesse Edu» THE RECONSTRUCTION OF L’AQUILA
After the earthquake struck l’Abruzzo in 2008, Umbra Cuscinetti made the children of L'Aquila smile. The company contributed to the Reconstruction of the Kindergarden and Primary School, “Istutito Dottrina Cristiana.” The company responded to the presentation of the project that was conceived by the Catholic-run “Kindergarden Mariele Ventre” of Foligno, a sister organization of the Kindergarden in L'Aquila for which Umbra and Valter Baldaccini had a very close relationship based on esteem, friendship and collaborization. The top management and most of the employees were moved by the strong spirit of solidarity. They contributed a sum of 20.000 €. The contribution was dedicated to the acquisition of equipment for a playground. The inauguration of the school was on the 8th of January, 2010. The donation from Umbra Cuscinetti and other parties for the construction of the school allowed these children to concentrate on an experience of renewal and the desire to live. L’Aquila is being reconstructed piece by piece. Everyone feels passionate about L’Aquila’s return to a better and stronger life.» EMILIA ROMAGNA AND RECONSTRUCTION
In 2012, Emilia Romagna was hit by a violent earthquake. Umbra Cuscinetti didn’t just look on. The donation of 15.000 € is the outcome of all the employees who contributed to the project. “The the House of the Volunteer,” is a senior’s facility and meeting point for volunteers run by the National Emergency Department concerned with the aim of giving socio-cultural support to the population. Listening to books read aloud is an important, early experience for all children that promotes emotional, linguistic and cognitive development in the first months of life. This experience is very important and it is especially crucial for children with disabilities or complex communication needs. These children would benefit greatly from reading aloud, but this is a challenge. Why? Because it’s hard to find suitable books. Creating books “made to order,” modified to meet the needs of every child, is the purpose of the project of the Library IN-BOOK, presented March 29, 2014 by the Library of the Municipality of Childrens and implemented with the support of UmbraGroup and La Gomena Onlus, a non-profit organization. In collaboration with: Comune di Foligno Biblioteca Comunale di Foligno La Gomena Onlus Auxilia. Since January 2016, the Valter Baldaccini Foundation has directly followed this project.» PROJECT HYDROPOWER
Hydropower, a machine that allows Foligno’s Civil Protecton to combat numerous critical environmental situations that strike our national territory, such as landslides and floods, was born last May, 2015 and is in the care of Prociv Foligno. It was donations from Umbra Cuiscinetti and other private companies around Foligno that made it possible to purchase the equipment required to build it. The machine consists of a vehicle outfitted with a cistern with a high pressure pump equipped with a nozzle. Additionally support includes a 10,000 later tank mounted on a pick-up. The Hydropower allows the removal of mud and earth from houses and alleys that are buried in the event of a geological disaster. It can overcome obstacles such as stairs and slopes, even steep slopes. This civil protection tool is to be available nationally, not just in our local region. Umbra Cuscinetti has contributed more than €5.000. The fundraiser, sponsored and promoted by Umbra, took place on May 5, 2015, the same day that we organised a charity show called “ The Heart of Valter Baldaccini” at the San Domenico Auditorium in Foligno. Many thanks to the theatre company Al Castello for contributing their performance for this initiative.» SUPPORT FOR A NATIONAL CANIN UNIT
Umbra Cuscinetti has donated a Doblò to the National Police Association of Foligno’s Civil Protection Unit for relief and recovery efforts. The presentation event was held last year on October 24th at Umbra Cuscinetti. The donation fulfilled the “dream” of President Fabrizio Casini. The Civil Protection Unit has always stood out for its commitment to support operational activities, and its active intervention during both local and national calamities and emergencies. Now, with the help of the canine unit, it can also be activated to to search for people lost in wooded areas, and in areas that are inaccessible and / or mountainous. In February 2016, Umbra Cuscinetti’s new contribution has allowed them to update the vehicle. Air conditioning has been added to the Doblò, a space for baggage has been added and aluminium cages have been set up to safely and securely transport the rescue dogs.» RICE MILL BUILT IN BENIN
Benin is one of West Africa’s poorest countries: its economy is underdeveloped and the population depends on agriculture, cotton growing and small regional trade for its livelihood. With the goal of helping these people in difficulty progress and prosper in their region, Umbra Cuscinetti decided to embrace / take on a project to construct a rice mill in Benin. At the end of 2015, a rice processing machine was built and installed in the town of Agbon.
